Most of the reviews listed here on this product are from people who are either mistakenly reviewing the "chlorine-free" not the new "free and clear" designed diapers (which have only been available starting March 2011), have only experience with traditional brands (i.e. pampers, huggies, luvs, generic rather than this brand or other "green" brands), or "vine" reviews. For those who don't know, "vine" is an amazon program that gives free products in exchange for reviews. The only purpose of the "vine" program is to promote new products and market them to the public through "personal" reviews. It is all paid for by the sponsoring company to ensure products come into the market with ample reviews posted.
As a parent, it's hard for me to spend money based on the opinions of someone who has been compensated to give their opinions on a certain product (also someone who has no experience with that category of product - such as "green" diapers). Isn't everything better when it's free? I can think of many things I would've given a higher rating to if I wouldn't have had to spend so much of my money on them (think about how much happier you are with buying a less than quality product from the $1 store versus the regular store). I'm not saying "vine" reviewers are lying, but there is a skewed perception when it's not your money you're spending and I'm not willing to spend my hard earned dollars based on the opinion of someone who was compensated in any way, including with free products.
I am posting my review because I am a mother of a diapered baby, who has used this brand and other "green" brands for a long time, and I have used several packs of these new free and clear diapers. I am NOT a "vine" member, as you can see by my "Amazon verified purchase" label on my review. What follows is my HONEST opinion, unbiased, pure and simple.

Here are the pros ; cons I found with these new "free and clear" diapers:
I am not a fan of the increased dusty sand stuff (SAP) that provides the absorption in these. If you happen to tear a dry diaper and inhale the dust, you get a really sore throat from the stuff. I don't like that being on my baby. It absorbs more because it has more SAP gel inside and less wood pulp, this is also why it is much thinner than previous versions. SAP is controversial, you should research it to make up your own mind for your own child. Wikipedia has a good entry on how SAP is created and you can look up the chemical ingredients on EWG (cosmeticsdatabase.com) for toxicity information - mainly, the controversial ingredient in SAP is sodium hydroxide (lye) which causes severe chemical burns to the skin. However, some SAP is present in almost all disposable diaper brands (but not all is made from lye).
We have had leaks at the stomach with our baby with overnight use and blowouts can happen at the legs because the elastic doesn't have a long enough length to create a proper fit for our baby. Each baby is different and you'll need to find which diaper design fits your child best at each stage. For reference, our baby is tall and trim.
The outside is not as soft and it looks like they are using less dye to make them brown because these are more tan in color. FYI - chlorine-free diapers are white when manufactured but seventh generation dyes the diapers to make them "natural" colored (this is openly listed in fine print on every package).
The sizing is smaller than most so you have to buy larger sizes sooner. This ends up costing you more because you get more for your money with other brands that run larger and smaller sizes come in packs of more diapers.
There is an foul odor with these diapers. This is not a problem with other diapers, not eco-friendly or otherwise, not sure why these ones smell but they do in comparison.
I'm not sure what the other reviewer is referring to with the sticky tabs, there is no sticky part on these diapers - it is like a type of velcro but not sticky like most other diapers. It works good for fastening, just the same (doesn't stick to skin).
I wish there was a size printed boldly on the diaper so I could easily sort out the diapers when my baby changes sizes and we have leftovers to give away.
Overall, I liked the previous version of these diapers best. For someone who is using a chemical doused traditional brand, I'm sure these are a step up. But for the rest of us who were already using this brand, this is a step down. More chemicals is not the way to go to be "eco-friendly" - if I cannot find the regular "chlorine-free" type and only the "free and clear" type are available for sale, we will use another brand.
I hope my truthful review helps you decide if these are right for your baby!

Edit (5/5/11): I have found another diaper I would recommend. Amazon sells 'Nurtured by Nature Environmentally-Sensitive Diapers' which work much better, cost much less (20 cents each), and is more eco-friendly (made mostly from corn plastic, not petroleum and has totally chlorine free certified pulp).

My daughter will be 2 in 3 days. I have had my daughter in generic diapers, Pampers, Huggies, you name it! I have never, and I mean NEVER had an issue with any of those diapers until this one. Within 4 diaper changes she was broken out. I don't know why. She has no skin sensitivity to any other diaper or baby wipe. She rarely, if ever, suffers from diaper rash. I took her off of the diapers, put her back onto her Huggies, and the rash went away!
I have no idea why she broke out. This diaper is supposed to be free of everything....EVERYTHING! They felt like other diapers (some people said they felt softer but I'm not buying it). They smelled free of perfumes but for a child to break out like that there has to be something in it.
I'd highly suggest getting one pack from a store and checking it out first before paying nearly forty bucks for a large box. For a child who never reacted to even the cheapest WallyWorld brand to break out to this brand....something doesn't smell right! (No pun intended. :) )

If you read down the list of reviews, you will find two basic camps: "I love this diaper" or "It gave my baby a terrible rash". Now this seems true of just about any diaper, but the reaction against the new "Dry Max" pampers has been particularly vocal. So the question any parent would naturally ask is: will this diaper give my baby a rash? My answer: Well... maybe.
First of a bit about diapers: To over simplify a little, diapers keep your baby dry using two things: "SAPs" or Super-absorbent polymers and Cellulose (made from wood pulp). There are some other materials in the diaper, but the real work is being done by these two ingredients. Cellulose can hold a limited amount of water when under pressure (i.e. a baby sitting or lying in a wet diaper will apply pressure to part of it) so SAPs are brought in to provide a more absorbent and stable moisture trap.
Now a little diaper history: the two main diaper manufactures are Proctor and Gamble (Pampers and Luvs) and Kimberly Clark (Huggies). Kimberly Clark is a paper and wood products company and they brought their considerable expertise to the table when they created the successful "Huggies" line of diapers. Proctor and Gamble countered by leveraging its extensive chemical portfolio and began a long drive to improve their SAPs which allowed them to use less cellulose and make thinner diapers than Huggies. Huggies do use SAPs, but they are less advanced than what P;G has brought to the market.
As a result you have more cellulose between skin and SAP in a Huggies than in a Pampers. If the SAP, or some other chemical related to engineering the SAP into the diaper is the cause of the mysterious rashes, this could be why Papers is getting a lot of flack: With "Dry Max" P;G claims to be using a new a powerful SAP. So it seems plausible that Dry Max Pampers may be more likely to trigger a rash, but nobody knows for sure. One unproven theory is that the powerful SAPs are drawing moisture out of the skin making it crack, which when exposed to urine and bacteria leads to a rash. It's also possible that fragrance is the culprit (there are some vocal advocates of this theory but I don't find the evidence definitive). Proctor and Gamble is sticking by its claims that Dry Max Cruisers don't cause any more rashes than the old Cruisers.
In my personal experience the child with sensitive skin couldn't wear Pampers (only Huggies) and the child without could wear anything (Pampers included). My best advice would be that if your child has sensitive skin they may be happier in Huggies but otherwise you are probably fine with Pampers. I usually found that Huggies were a better fitting diaper but that varied depending on the kid and their age. I think that fit is more kid specific than diaper specific (no two brands fit the same and depending on your baby's shape one is likely to fit better than another - and the "best" brand may change as your child grows).
I think it simply comes down to getting a small pack and trying them out. If your baby seems to react, has more rashes or you get a lot of leaks, just move on to something else.

Edit (12/4/10): When writing the original review, I should have mentioned that Swaddlers did not always have the DryMax technology. This review was based on comparing the DryMax to the original Swaddlers. The original Swaddlers had a color indicator on the front of Size 1 diapers, which was great for new parents - even though the DryMax does poof out when the baby wets the diaper. The original diapers also had a much softer powder scent. We are currently going back and forth between Pampers Cruisers Dry Max Diapers, Size 4, 140-Count and Pampers Baby Dry Diapers, Size 4 (22-37 Lbs), Economy Plus Pack, 176 Diapers (Packaging May Vary) (the kid grew!). I am still not a fan of the odor associated with DryMax (Baby Dry does not have it), but they certainly are thinner. Ultimately, we ask ourselves - do they leak? do they smell weird? does it cause rash? Unfortunately the DryMax seems to always be a yes to the last two questions.
Original review: My husband and I purchased the Swaddlers to use with our newborn (born March 1 of this year) and were quite pleased until they changed to the DryMax. There is no longer a color-indicator for wetness, they smell horrible, and worst of all our son becomes absolutely miserable the moment he wets the diaper. We certainly don't want our child sitting around in a wet diaper, but when you purchase more expensive diapers you expect your child to be comfortable in them.
If they don't at least offer the old version again, we will not continue to use Pampers. It's a shame because it was such a great diaper!

It is exactly what you find in stores like Walmart, and it works just the same. When I bought this at Amazon, it cost roughly the same as Walmart (may be a few cents less). It ships free with 2-day shipping as well. I bought it here mostly because I like amazon, and the shopping here in general.
I have diaper genie elite as well as the 'twistaway' model. Having used both for a couple of years now, I would say don't bother with twistaway model, it just isnt worth that 10$ you save initially. It is much harder to use, and in my experience runs out of cartridge much sooner. The elite system is much simpler to use with just one hand.

Yes I do purchase this item and love using it. I do wish it was less expensive and no matter where I shop it is never on sale. This company knows you need it and until a competitor does the job as well as Diaper Genie they have no reason to bring down the price. I finally got smart and only use the Genie for poop diapers. The rest go in the regular trash can.

I am subscribed to this product via "Subscribe and Save" program, which provides a very good price.
Recently, Amazon has switched my subscription from the 132-count box (size 3) Pampers Swaddlers Sensitive Size 3 Economy Plus Pack, 132 Count to this 156-count box. The price did not change much but the diapers themselves are different:
1. The Main difference is that the lining (the most inner layer that is pressed against baby's butt) looks like a mesh on the 156 diaper (each cell is approx 3 millimeters) as opposed to uniform surface resembling a compressed cotton ball on the 132 diaper. Effect: when the mesh-lined diaper collects some liquid, it feels MUCH, MUCH wetter to the touch than the "cotton"-lined diaper. Combined with the relatively large cell size, the baby's butt is much less dry and it gets irritated much more easily due to the mesh pressing and rubbing against it. I do have to watch these diapers more closely and change them more often.
2. The quality of manufacturing is worse.
I am 1/2 through my second box of these "mesh" diapers and about every fourth diaper is somewhat glued to the mesh. If you are not SUPER careful and slow in unforlding and ungluing it, the mesh gets easily torn. And the next layer under the mesh feels suprizingly rough to the touch. So the diaper goes to trash.
In the first box, out of 156 diapers some 5 or 6 had the stretchy wings (that fix the diaper in the front) detach easily on unfolding, and three diapers completely missed one of the wings.
None of these manufacturing issues seemed apparent with the previous 132-count package.
I am somewat perplexed as to whether it is just this variety (the 156-count box) has this "mesh" construction and manufaturing issues or Pampers has switched to the mesh lining across all manufacturing locations and packagings. I am about to consider dropping this subscription, and, perhaps, the Swaddlers Sensitive diaper line altogether. BTW, the 156-count box says "Made in the USA".

Pampers Swaddlers Sensitive without Dry Max size 1 and 2 are wonderful. I have had no problems with diaper rash or leaks (I use ones without the Dry Max because I know 2 other babies who have had horrible rashes due to the Dry Max). Unfortunately size 3 is not wonderful and I would not recommend anyone using these. After a using few diapers I noticed a strange smell coming from my daughter. Finally, after thinking I was going crazy trying to find out where this strange chemical smell was coming from, I realized it was her diaper! Every time she wet her diaper this strange, nasty smell would happen! The smell is so bad it makes my eyes burn! My baby never got a rash from the diapers but I only used them for about 2 days. I won't risk my daughter getting a chemical burn. I called Pampers and they didn't give an explanation as to why the diaper had this smell but they did listen and will be sending me a questionnaire to send back with a couple of the diapers. I will be returning my unused diapers to Amazon and I have already switched to Huggies. There is nothing worse than your beautiful baby having a nasty smell to them! I am disappointed that Pampers couldn't continue with the same good quality as in size 1 and 2. Don't risk buying Pampers shoddy size 3s and just buy another brand.

I have been a loyal and pleased Pampers customer since 2007. I loved the mesh lining in the Cruisers and the fact I never, ever had any leaks, even if my daughter wore them 12+ hours at night and they were sagging down between her knees. Now I have two in Cruisers and began noticing a severe quality decline several months ago. Tabs ripping off, mesh liner gone, leaking, stiffness... The new Dry Max diapers ARE different than what has been in their boxes recently -- they are noticeably thinner and a bit softer (but not as soft as the original - oh how I loved how cushy they used to be). They DO hold quite a bit of urine and the sagging is not AS bad after a long night, HOWEVER they continue to leak out the sides and front quite often. I haven't had a problem with blowouts b/c my children are toddlers and on solids, but I have an inkling if they leak urine they will leak poo also.
Overall my satisfaction with Pampers is quite low at this point. Unfortunately I tried switching to Huggies and their product is even more inferior, which I suppose is why Pampers feels they can make these changes (aka cutbacks) and still be competitive/retain most of their customers. You can be sure that if a diaper company came out with a quality diaper comparable with the original Cruisers I would leave Pampers and their Dry Max in an instant.

I've been a loyal pampers customer for the past 2 years, and have been diapering my daughter in pampers since birth. She used swaddlers as a newborn, and then we switched to cruisers as she started becoming more mobile. When they originally introduced drymax I was a little nervous since I had heard about the rashes, but fortunately we were lucky, and I was still a huge pampers fan. Never had blowouts, never had issues, and my daughter was always very comfortable. Until now. For some reason pampers decided to change their diapers again, making them softer and more similar to the swaddlers in texture. However, the rash my daughter developed on her tush since the new softer feel is insane. She is not an allergic or sensitive skinned baby, but this rash was impossible to get rid of. After two tubes of desitin and lots of screaming during diaper changes, I decided it HAD to be the diaper. I switched to generic, and suddenly the rash was gone! I am so disgusted and frustrated with pampers right now, especially because i have been such a loyal customer for the past 2 years. Pampers needs to do better studies on the chemicals they are introducing in their diapers before introducing them to the consumer! I feel awful that my daughter had to put up with that awful rash for so long because I didn't believe pampers would have done something so negligent. Not happy.

Most hospitals I know of will use these Pampers Swaddlers diapers for babies born in the hospital. I am sure many of you are buying these because it was what your baby first used at the hospital.
I have been ordering these exact diapers (either from sellers Trend marketing or Planet Stuff, both "fulfilled by Amazon") for about a month now for my newborn (born 6lbs 7oz). They fit her great and we have not had any leaks or blowouts (knock on wood). They are soft, seemingly comfortable for her, and I do not believe that it irritates her skin.
Here comes the tricky part.
As you may or may not know, Pampers has something called "DRY MAX" that is added to some diapers to make them more absorbent. These extra substances may or may not irritate your baby's skin. Search online and you will find that many people have complained about having DRY MAX in the diapers and it giving their baby a rash.
To convolute things even more, go to a local store that sells diapers and you will probably find that some Pampers Swaddlers packages say "with Dry Max" on them and some dont. So Pampers makes two versions of Swaddlers, one with Dry max and one without? WRONG! (well, according to Pampers themselves that is wrong).
Straight from Pampers themselves:
1. Any regular Pampers Swaddlers (non-Sensiitive versions) diapers have Dry-Max
2. Pampers Swaddlers SENSITIVE do NOT have Dry-Max
So, what about these diapers? They are marked as Pampers Swaddlers (non-Sensitive). So we assume they have Dry-Max in them right? WRONG! Pampers does it again and confuses us even more --- order these (from the sellers i listed) and you will notice that packaging has a special little symbol on it that reads "SPECIALIZED HOSPITAL PRODUCT". What's that all about? I contacted Pampers again:
"Thanks for writing!
There is some packaging that is normally not offered at the retail level. These Swaddlers are going to be plain white for the hopsitals, and the make up of the diaper is like Swaddlers Sensitive. "
So there you have it. Even those these are marked as Regular Swaddlers, they are a special hospital version and do NOT have Dry-max (a.k.a. are made like Swaddlers Sensitive).
whew, that was confusing!
When my baby moves up to size 1, i will go straight to Swaddlers Sensitive and not even deal with this dry-max vs. non-drymax fiasco (note: many people are happy with dry-max too! just depends on your baby!)

edit just wanted to mention, in the Amazon picture for this product you can actually see the special symbol. It is a white circle with a + in the middle, and around it says "Specialized Hospital Product"

I've had issues with two suppliers regarding these diapers. Here's my advise to anyone needing/wanting to purchase the swaddler newborn "hospital approved" diapers.
Here's the scoop: Suppliers are advertising the "hospital approved" diapers, these have a + in the middle of a circle on the package. These diapers are the ones used in hospitals and are basically the same as sensitive diapers, except you are not paying the extra .15 per diaper, you pay the same as the other swaddlers for newborns. Now, the catch is the UPC, which the suppliers are not paying attention to. The UPC is 30374X on the hospital grade and on the others is is: 30374. Now, from what a supplier told me, the manufacturer (pampers) is apparently no longer selling hospital grade to the public, which means that the suppliers who have always had these x diapers, will no longer carry them, and they are still advertising the "hospital grade", they are the regular ones.
This has made it so that if the suppliers were not aware of this change, they would not know they are sending out the non-hospital grade diapers, which has health risks to their customers. I'm severly allergic to the powder scent and powder and other stuff in the diaper, I cannot even have the package near me, if it's within 10 feet, I"ll break into hives, and be in the hospital with breathing problems, if it's closer I'm in the ER quickly... So, it's important to me when a supplier advertises something, they send the correct product.
Just wanted to give a heads-up in case there are others or their babies who are sensitive to the regular diapers, and so when you open the packaging, if the nubers on the box don't have the x after them, and/or you put the package to your nose and smell the strong powder scent, you will know you received the incorrect product.

Luvs are the cheapest diapers I have found thus far, and I have researched prices quite a bit. It is very important to me to save as much money as I can on diapers because they are a constant expense. We thought we were getting the cheapest diapers by purchasing the store brand (Kirkland Signature Supreme Baby Diapers (Size 3, Quantity 208)) at Costco. However, Amazon beats all store brands in price as long as you take advantage of Subscribe ; Save. (We still use the Costco brand wipes, which are fantastic and economical: Kirkland Premium Baby Wipes - 900 Count)
Not only are Luvs the least expensive diapers I have come across, they are great quality. The thing I like about them the most is that they are very thin, especially when compared to the Kirkland diapers. They allow my baby to move freely and he does not feel so bulky. The stretchy sides are also well-constructed; they provide enough give while still having a snug fit. We have never had a leak in Luvs diapers, and we have gone through two 200+ boxes of them by now. My baby sleeps 12+ hours overnight and we have never had an accident.
One feature of Luvs worth noting; they have a powder-like scent. When I first got them I was hesitant about the smell, but I quickly got used to it. The scent is strongest when you first open the plastic package of diapers. It will dissipate a bit if you remove them from the plastic packaging and let them air out in a diaper stacker or in your changing table.
Luvs are fantastic because you can get an inexpensive diaper without sacrificing quality.

From $27 now its $35 for subscribe and save? Really? I've been telling my friends about you how cheap you can get it in Amazon, now I feel like a fool.

These are plain and simply the best diapers on the market. I can't say nearly as much for regular Pampers, Huggies, or even Luvs. We tried every brand available when my son was born a size preemie - nothing would fit on him, and everything leaked! We had our hospital guests running out for us to find us preemie onsies, sleepers, and diapers. Then we finally decided to try these, and they still fit him, no matter what he's growing like at the time. They're super stretchy and the softest diaper I've felt. Nothing scratchy touching the baby, and since they stretch and fit comfortably snug no matter what, you never have a pile of left over diapers that don't fit him anymore, when they go up to a new size. They fit till the end, and they overlap each other in size rage so there are no weird periods of growth when he's an 'in-between' size. They are also SUPER absorbant. We've changed more than one leak from Huggies, (regular) Pampers, and Luvs and most of them were all from 'weird angle!' accidents and the diapers were barely wet. With Swaddlers you go to change the diaper and it's as heavy as a softball and you're just flabberghasted. They pull everything away from his skin, and are just plain and simple = wonderful.

We have used these diapers from day 1 for my now 5-month old. I LOVE the wetness indicator stripe, it is so convenient! A month ago when we ordered a huge box of 1-2's they had the wetness indicator. This time (same size, same size box) they didn't! Packaging is exactly alike, but sometimes you get it and sometimes you don't? I really hope they are not phasing it out and putting it only on the sensitives, and I wish you could tell if the diapers have the stripe by the outside packaging. It is a total shot in the dark whether or not the stripe will be on the diapers once you open the box... and when it's not there it's a total bummer :/

Ahh, the ultimate controversy. I feel like I've graduated from college to adult when the hot topic with my friends has changed from 'boxers vs briefs' to 'huggies vs pampers'.
We did stage our own version of the Pepsi Challenge, and purchased Huggies, Papers, Luvs and even some other random brand I found in our local grocery store. Huggies wins hands down. Luvs leaked all the time, and was even kind of scratchy. Pampers was nice and soft, but also leaked. For us, Huggies has never leaked. The elastic bands around the legs fit well, the diapers are soft enough to not bother my son. We've used Huggies from size NB up to 3 so far and have still preferred Huggies in each size range.
Within the Huggies line, I prefer the Ultra-trim (which I guess is being called something else now?) over the Huggies Supreme. The Supreme were extra padded and tended to bunch up. They didn't leak, but they just weren't as comfortable for my son's frenzied activity level.
As for fit, my son has always been small for his age (10th percentile in weight, 60th percentile in height), so I'm not sure if that makes any difference... maybe pampers works better for chunky kids? Which opens up another age old controversy "does size really matter"? But that's a conversation for another day.

I like Huggies. I also like that I have figured out how to use them. First, you must make sure to "open" the diapers before you start to change your baby. The elastic is folded into the diaper and a gentle tug of your finger will flatten it out. Second, you must make sure that the elastic is not bent inward when you put the diaper on your baby. Follow these two rules and you shouldn't get many leaks. (You may be able to tell that these rules are based upon experience.) Good luck.

I am a stay at home Mom with 4 children. I have been buying diapers for the past almost 11 years and Pampers Baby Dry is hands down the best diaper on the market, and believe me I have tried them all! All of my kids have been "super soakers" when it comes to pee. These diapers way out perform any other brand including major brands and department store brands. The major selling points for me are:
1. They are thin, easy to pack 5 in a diaper bag.
2. Easy to unfold with one hand (if you, like me frequently have to use the other hand to keep baby still)
3. tabs are easily opened without extra unfolding and don't rip off like several other brands.
4. Doesn't leave residue on baby or smell like pee when really soaked.
5. wider in the front to prevent baby from peeing out the side (and my kids are experts at this)
One thing that may be helpful is to remember that Pampers fit better on children that are long and skinny. If your baby is short and really chubby in the bottom, then Huggies will fit your baby better. This, I believe, explains the few complaints about Pampers not fitting or leaking.

It must depend on your child because I tried the cruisers after always using baby dry on my son and they failed us several times. I went right back to baby dry and no more leaks. I have also tried other brands and I loved Huggies for my daughter but they don't work for my son. Funny how each is different. I am a mother of 4 and Luvs worked for my other son. You just go with what works for your child. I also have noticed that they work differently for different ages as well. Good idea to try a few out before you buy the jumbo packs.
